More Information

Vallen made this live pencil sketch during one of the earliest Los Angeles performances by The Screamers. Vocalist Tomata du Plenty mesmerized audiences with farcical and deranged theatrics, while the band used synthesizers and computerized modules instead of guitars to produce distressingly weird music. The Screamers never released a record and disbanded in 1981. Tomata took up painting, pursuing it until his death in 2000. The Georgia Museum of Art located in Athens, Georgia exhibited Tomata’s paintings from Oct. 4, 2014 to Jan. 4, 2015 in an exhibit titled: Tomata du Plenty and the West Coast Punk Scene. Vallen’s “Tomata du Plenty” drawing was included in that show.
